Approved for 2 RCH!
Topic: Update on the Tax Code Overhaul for Payroll
Summary: Payroll's role in implementing certain provisions of the tax code overhaul (Pub. L. 115-97) is far from finished. As the federal withholding system transitions away from using personal exemptions and states address federal conformity issues, employers and payroll professionals must keep up with the changes in these areas and others that came into effect with the new law. In addition to significant withholding tax modifications that are expected by year-end, updates to changes in the way certain fringe benefits are handled, guidance on some new payroll-related tax credits, and several other changes will be covered during this program.
Michael Baer, the managing editor overseeing domestic and international payroll information with Bloomberg Tax, previously BNA, has been with the organization since 1990 and has spent his entire time there covering payroll and HR issues. In 1998, he received recognition as a Special Friend to the payroll community from the American Payroll Association.
Prior to joining Bloomberg Tax, Michael gained experience in payroll and human resources with Marriott, and later was the personnel manager for the Shanghai Hilton.
He lives with his wife and children in Alexandria, Virginia.
